The quarterback position is always the most fun to follow heading into the NFL Draft season. The 2022 draft saw just one quarterback go off the board in the first round (Kenny Pickett), but four signal-callers are expected to be taken in Round 1 in 2023. Anthony Richardson is projected to be one of those guys.
Despite lackluster production in his short career, Richardson climbed up draft boards and is arguably the most fascinating quarterback prospect on the board in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Which teams could be interested in Richardson's services? Let's dive in.

Who Is Anthony Richardson?
Richardson is 21 years old with just 13 starts under his belt at the University of Florida. In his first and last full year as a starter last year, Richardson completed just 53.8 percent of his passes for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. However, his rushing prowess is what makes him intriguing given the modern-day quarterbacks who are taking over the league.
On 103 rushing attempts, Richardson posted 654 yards (6.3 YPC) and nine rushing touchdowns. It's important to remember that sacks are counted as rushing attempts and negative rushing yards, so in actuality, his yards per rushing attempt figure is even more impressive than it seems. When you consider that Richardson is 6 foot 4 and 232 pounds, his rushing statistics become even more impressive.
Ultimately, a franchise quarterback has to make big-time throws, too, and his arm is rumored to be as strong as anybody in the NFL. He's a raw prospect with inconsistent mechanics, but he has an ultra-high ceiling. That said, there's a solid chance he sits behind a veteran quarterback for at least a significant portion of his rookie season.
2023 NFL Teams In Need of a Quarterback
The Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Commanders, and Las Vegas Raiders are in dire need of quarterback upgrades.
However, there are wild cards like the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks who could be interested in quarterbacks.
There are often surprise teams who make a move for a rookie stud QB, but almost half of the league could be in play in 2023.
What NFL Team Could Pick Richardson?
While this list could change depending on where Aaron Rodgers (if not Green Bay) and Derek Carr end up, there are a handful of teams who could be in the Richardson sweepstakes. CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, and Will Levis seem like locks to be picked inside the top 10, but Richardson's range for being selected is anywhere from the top five to outside the top 15.
Seattle (pick 5 and 20) and Detroit (pick 6 and 19) make sense as both could have above-average veteran quarterbacks at the helm to mentor Richardson. Both teams made the playoffs, but Geno Smith and Jared Goff have uncertain ceilings for winning a Super Bowl. Either of those guys could be what Alex Smith was to Patrick Mahomes. Tennessee with Ryan Tannehill or another bridge quarterback could fit this situation as well.
Among more obvious QB-needy teams, Atlanta (pick 8), Carolina (pick 9), Washington (pick 16), Tampa Bay (pick 19), and New Orleans (pick 29) make a ton of sense. Those teams might opt to keep a veteran quarterback around during Richardson's first season, too, but he would have a better chance to hit the field right away in those spots.
Ultimately, a ton of teams could be in the mix, but Richardson landing on one of those eight teams is a good bet.
