The Pittsburgh Steelers underwent massive changes last offseason as Ben Roethlisberger retired, meaning the team would have a new opening day starter for the first time since 2004.
After Mitch Trubisky started the first four games this season, Kenny Pickett took over. While the rookie had only seven passing touchdowns in 2022, the team must be happy, given how he played this season.
Unfortunately, the Steelers missed the playoffs despite ending the year winning six of their final seven games. They were a tiebreaker away from making the postseason for the third consecutive year. However, the future is bright in Pittsburgh.

What Draft Picks Do The Pittsburgh Steelers Own?
Following their 9-8 record this year, the Steelers have the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It will be the team’s earliest draft selection since they took Devin Bush Jr. 10th overall in 2019.
Overall, Pittsburgh has seven picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. More importantly, they have three picks in the top 50 selections. In addition to the 17th overall pick, the Steelers have their own second-round pick (49th overall) and the 32nd overall pick from the Chicago Bears.
When the team traded Chase Claypool to the Bears before the trade deadline, they never expected to receive the top pick in the second round for the receiver. With three top-50 picks, Pittsburgh could come away with an excellent draft class.
Who Could The Pittsburgh Steelers Draft In The First Round?
The Steelers can go in several directions with their first-round pick. According to the NFL Draft trade chart, Pittsburgh could combine their first-round pick and the Bears’ second-round pick and move into the top seven of the draft.
However, the team’s top need is cornerback, as Cameron Sutton is a free agent in March. Furthermore, the Steelers face several elite wide receivers in their division twice a year in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Amari Cooper.
Last year, Pittsburgh stayed local when they drafted Pickett with their first-round pick. They could do similar this year with Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr. Furthermore, the Penn State cornerback’s father played for the Steelers from 1999-2009.
Porter Jr. is one of the top cornerbacks in the draft this year. He also reportedly has extremely long arms, a trait that teams value at the cornerback position.
