Which Draft Pick Do The New England Patriots Have In The 2024 NFL Draft?

A new era is arriving in Massachusetts. Since (essentially) the turn of the millennium, there have been two eras for New England: Tom Brady and after Tom Brady. The soon-to-be Hall of Famer strung together the greatest extended run in NFL history. His replacement, Mac Jones, isn't going to get a second contract.

There's also a new head coach roaming the sidelines for the first time since 2000. The rebuild is on.

What Draft Picks Do The New England Patriots Own?

The New England Patriots own seven picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, one in each round. The pièce de résistance is the third-overall pick.

After the first round, they'll select 34th overall with their second-round pick. The Patriots also pick 68th (third round), 103rd (fourth round), 135th (fifth round), 181st (sixth round), and 228th (seventh round). Their seventh-round pick comes via Chicago in the deal for wide receiver N'Keal Harry. Their original seventh-round pick was sent to Las Vegas.

The Patriots' defense was passable in 2023. The offense has everyone looking like that one Jay-Z GIF from "Give It 2 Me". Under the tutelage of Jones and Bailey Zappe, the Patriots finished the season with the second-fewest points and third-fewest yards per game. Expect a lot of their draft picks to address that side of the football.

Who Could The New England Patriots Draft In The First Round?

New head coach Jerod Mayo shouldn't leave the 2024 NFL Draft without a new quarterback. There are three signal callers listed near the top of every mock draft. Unless they trade up, USC's Caleb Williams seems out of reach. The Bears (or whoever their trade partner is) will select Williams first.

That leaves North Carolina's Drake Maye and LSU's Jayden Daniels. Unless they are aggressive in going to get their guy, the Patriots may be at the mercy of whichever quarterback that the Commanders fancy. With quarterback-needy teams atop the draft board, the possibility of three straight to begin the draft is a real possibility.

Maye has the tendencies of a prototypical quarterback, akin to Justin Herbert or Carson Palmer. Outside of one season of Cam Newton, that's the type of player they've had under center since the Drew Bledsoe days. But it is a new era and the rebuild may call for more of a dual-threat quarterback, ala Jayden Daniels. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner passed for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while adding 1,134 yards and another 10 scores on the ground.

Although Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will be a temptation, he can't make as big of an impact with the current mediocre quarterbacks on the roster. Leaving this quarterback-heavy draft with the new face of the franchise is a must.
