The Los Angeles Chargers ended the 2022 season with a 10-7 record and made the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
Despite countless injuries on both sides of the ball, the Chargers secured the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs. Their first-round opponent was the AFC South division-winning Jacksonville Jaguars.
Unfortunately, after forcing five first-half turnovers, Los Angeles blew a 27-0 lead and lost the game 31-30. While many expected head coach Brandon Staley to get fired, he will return next season.

What Draft Picks Do The Los Angeles Chargers Own?
Following their exit from the playoffs, the Chargers will have the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Overall, Los Angeles has seven picks in this year’s draft. The team has all seven of their original draft picks. They had traded away their sixth-round selection to the Chicago Bears as part of the Khalil Mack trade last offseason. However, that pick was sent back to the Chargers in a draft-day deal last year for a pair of seventh-round selections.
Who Could The Los Angeles Chargers Draft In The First Round?
On paper, the team doesn’t have any glaring issues. Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams highlight the offense. Defensively, Joey Bosa, Derwin James, and Mack led the unit. Unfortunately, the Chargers can't use their first-round draft pick to guarantee themselves a healthy team next year.
The one position on offense the team could upgrade is tight end. Gerald Everett played well in his first year in Los Angeles, totaling 58 receptions for 555 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 16 games. However, the Chargers could release the veteran tight end this offseason and save $4 million in cap space. Even if Everett remains with the team, second-string tight end Donald Parham is a free agent in March.
Last year’s draft class lacked a first-round tight end, but that isn’t the case this year with Michael Mayer. The former Notre Dame star would be an excellent addition to the Chargers. He was an unstoppable force in college and would give the team an elite weapon at tight end.
While Los Angeles could go in several directions with this pick, pairing Mayer with Herbert would make fantasy players extremely happy.
