The Jacksonville Jaguars entered the 2022 season with low expectations. After earning the No. 1 pick in the 2021 and 2022 NFL Drafts, most thought Jacksonville would have another top-five pick in 2023.
However, the team had other plans. In Doug Pederson's first year as the head coach, he took the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Furthermore, the Jaguars won seven of their final nine games to end the regular season, including five straight and a must-win Week 18 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
Jacksonville then had an impressive comeback victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, they were no match for the Kansas City Chiefs this past weekend, losing 27-20.

What Draft Picks Do The Jacksonville Jaguars Own?
Following their second-round exit from the playoffs, the Jaguars will have the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The last time the team picked outside the top 10 with their own selection was in 2018. Furthermore, this year will only be the second time since 2008 that the franchise’s first-round pick is outside the top 10.
Overall the Jaguars have eight picks in this year’s draft, including five on Day 3. Three of those five Day 3 selections came via trade, including a sixth-round pick from the New York Jets for James Robinson. Jacksonville also has a fourth-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles in a draft-day deal from last year.
Who Could The Jacksonville Jaguars Draft In The First Round?
The Jaguars enter the offseason with 18 free agents, including several starters. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor had a career year and will earn a massive new deal. Meanwhile, Evan Engram will be the team’s top priority after his excellent 2022 season. However, Jacksonville doesn’t have the cap space needed to keep their top free agents without making some roster moves.
One potential move is to release cornerback Shaquill Griffin. The veteran struggles this season, posting a 61.9 PFF coverage grade in 2022. Furthermore, Jacksonville would save $13.2 million in salary cap space by moving on from the cornerback.
Regardless of whether Griffin is back next year, the Jaguars need to address the cornerback position. One name to keep an eye on is Devon Witherspoon. The Illinois cornerback is physical and not afraid to make a big hit in the run game.
