The Dallas Cowboys had a 2022 season full of highs and lows. In Week 1, Dak Prescott suffered a fractured thumb, forcing the star quarterback to miss five games.
Many in the media wrote the Cowboys off following the injury. However, backup quarterback Cooper Rush led the team to a 4-1 record as the starter, including wins over the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants.
Dallas would win eight of their final 11 games once Prescott returned in Week 7. They then won their first-round playoff matchup over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-14 before losing to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

What Draft Picks Do The Dallas Cowboys Own?
Following their second-round exit from the playoffs, the Cowboys will have the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Overall the Cowboys have nine picks in this year’s draft. They have all of their original picks except the sixth-rounder after trading it to the Las Vegas Raiders as part of a deal for defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.
Dallas should also get three compensatory picks after the team lost Randy Gregory, Connor Williams, and Cedrick Wilson Jr. last offseason in free agency. The team should get a pair of fifth-round picks for Gregory and Williams while earning a sixth-round selection for Wilson.
Who Could The Dallas Cowboys Draft In The First Round?
The Cowboys heads into the offseason with several critical players scheduled to become free agents in March. At the top of the list are Tony Pollard and Dalton Schultz.
Last year Dallas placed the franchise tag on Schultz after the two sides couldn’t come to a long-term deal. However, the team has reportedly considered putting the franchise tag on Pollard this offseason. That means Schultz will hit the open market unless the Cowboys can reach a long-term deal with the tight end. Given the team’s cap situation, the star tight end might not be back with the team next season.
If the Cowboys lose Schultz, Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer would be an ideal target in the first round. The star tight end was an unstoppable force in college and would give them an immediate replacement for Schultz.
