The Carolina Panthers made a significant move in last year's draft, trading up to select Bryce Young as the first overall pick. In doing so, they had to send away their 2024 first-round pick, which unfortunately turned out to be the number one pick for this season following Carolina's NFL-worst two wins.
Their draft capital in 2024 ranks near the bottom of the NFL due to the absence of a first-round selection. However, they maintain a positive cap space. Young endured a challenging rookie campaign with a struggling supporting cast, but now he has an offensive-minded coach, Dave Canales, to help turn things around.
Carolina could greatly benefit from players who can make an impact in their first year and contribute to Young's development. What picks do the Panthers have, and who might they consider with their first pick? Let's delve into that.

What Draft Picks Do The Carolina Panthers Own?
The Panthers and Browns are the only two teams without a first-round pick this year, as they sent this year's pick to Chicago last year to move up and take Young. They do hold their own second, third, and fourth-round picks, while also having a fifth from Tennessee, a fifth from San Francisco, and a sixth-round pick from Arizona.
Their fifth-round pick this year was sent to Cleveland in the Baker Mayfield trade, and their sixth-round pick was sent to Jacksonville in exchange for Laviska Shenault Jr. To recoup some capital, they sent offensive lineman Dennis Daley and their seventh-round pick in 2024 to Tennessee for the Titans' fifth-round pick. They then sent Robbie Chosen and a future seventh-round pick for a 2024 sixth-round pick.
Finally, the fifth-rounder from San Francisco is the final draft asset they received in the Christian McCaffrey trade. The Panthers only have six picks this year and have a lot of needs.
Who Could The Carolina Panthers Draft In The Second Round?
Carolina could potentially go in any direction with the 33rd overall pick, particularly with Brian Burns, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Jeremy Chinn all set to become unrestricted free agents. However, the top priority for the upcoming season in Carolina is ensuring they provide Young with all the tools to develop and succeed in the league. Adding playmakers who excel after the catch appears to be a sound strategy to alleviate stress on the offensive line.
If the Panthers choose to address the receiver position at 33, Devontez Walker, Keon Coleman, Adonai Mitchell, and Xavier Legette are names worth monitoring. While none perfectly fit the description of a player who excels after the catch, the Panthers need talent in the receiver room, and any of these individuals would instantly bolster the offense.
Considering both edge rushers are slated to be free agents, it might not be a bad idea to explore replacements at this spot. Chop Robinson and Chris Braswell could be excellent options if available, allowing the team to potentially part ways with at least one of their free agent pass rushers. Taking offensive help is likely the direction Carolina will lean toward as they seek to support their young quarterback and truly see what he's capable of doing.
