The 2022 NFL season is one the Arizona Cardinals and their fans would like to forget. They were embarrassed in Week 1 by the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 44-21.
Arizona stayed in the playoff mix over the next several weeks, winning three of their next six games. However, the Cardinals lost nine of their final 10 games to end the year with a 4-13 record.
Part of the team’s struggles was the pile of injuries. Zach Ertz missed seven games with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Kyler Murray suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 14 that puts the start of the 2023 season in doubt for the quarterback.

What Draft Picks Do The Arizona Cardinals Own?
After ending the year with a 4-13 record, the Cardinals have the third-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It is the team’s highest selection since they took Murray first overall in 2019. Furthermore, it is only Arizona’s fifth top-five pick over the past 22 years.
The Cardinals have only five draft picks this year. In addition to the third-overall selection, Arizona has a second, third, fourth, and sixth-round pick. However, the team has two possible ways to add more draft capital.
Reportedly, the Cardinals will trade DeAndre Hopkins in the offseason. With a limited free agent class, Arizona should have plenty of potential trade partners for the star wide receiver. The team will likely get a late first-round or early second-round pick in return for Hopkins.
Another potential option is trading back from the No. 3 overall pick. Several quarterback-needy teams are picking behind the Cardinals, who could offer a bounty of draft capital to move up and select either C.J. Stroud or Will Levis.
Who Could The Arizona Cardinals Draft In The First Round?
If Arizona keeps the third-overall pick, their top target should be Georgia’s Jalen Carter. The star defensive lineman has been an unstoppable force all year long for the Bulldogs. While he had only two tackles against TCU, Carter made several impactful plays in the National Championship Game.
With J.J. Watt retiring, Arizona’s defensive line will take a massive step back next season. However, adding Carter could turn the unit into an elite group. The star defensive lineman can single handily make life difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
