Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson was the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Dotson spent four years at Penn State, having an excellent career. He only had 13 receptions as a freshman but totaled over 200 receiving yards. Dotson finished fifth on the team in receiving yards that year.

The following season, the former Penn State saw his production improve, totaling 27 receptions for 488 receiving yards and five touchdowns. However, Dotson had a breakout season in 2020. That year he had 52 receptions for 884 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Despite some calling for him to declare for the NFL Draft, the star receiver returned to Penn State.

Dotson had 91 receptions for 1,182 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 2021, all career highs. Furthermore, he led the team in all three categories, scoring eight more receiving touchdowns than any other player. More importantly, the Penn State star finished top-three in the Big Ten in receptions and receiving touchdowns that season.

While Dotson had an excellent college career, many NFL Draft experts felt the Commanders made a bad pick when they selected the receiver 16th overall. However, the former Penn State star proved to be one of the better wide receivers in the rookie draft class.

Last year Dotson had 35 receptions on 61 targets for 523 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Despite missing five games with a hamstring injury, the rookie wide receiver finished 15th in the NFL in receiving touchdowns, scoring the total as Tyreek Hill and DeVonta Smith.

The second-year receiver played 55.7% of the snaps as a rookie, finishing third among the team’s wide receivers behind Terry McLaurin (89.3%) and Curtis Samuel (71.4%). However, that won’t be the case this year. The former Penn State star is having an outstanding training camp.

Many consider the second-year player a breakout candidate. Last year he led all rookies in receiving touchdowns (seven) despite missing five contests and playing several others limited. If you remove his first three games back from a nagging hamstring injury, the rookie was terrific for fantasy players.

Dotson averaged 12.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game in his healthy nine contests last year. Over a 17-game, he would have been the WR11. The second-year player has an eighth-round ADP and is well worth that price.
