Trevor Rogers Injury Update
Rogers made four starts this season, posting a 4.00 ERA and 9.50 K/9 before heading to the injured list. This is coming off a disastrous season where he recorded a 5.47 ERA with 106 strikeouts in 107 innings. Rogers was one of the best starting pitchers in baseball during his first full season with the Marlins in 2021. The southpaw had a 2.64 ERA with 157 strikeouts in 133 innings. Since then, Rogers has been searching for what made him successful that year.
On June 4, Rogers made his last minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A. He put forth a solid outing and was scheduled to have his next start on June 10, but he did not pitch in that game.
The Marlins starter was scratched from his scheduled Saturday start and moved to the 60-day IL on Tuesday. The scratch was due to shoulder discomfort in his non-throwing arm, so it may not be a significant setback, but the timetable is murky for now.
Trevor Rogers Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Rogers put forth one of the best rookie seasons from a pitcher in a long time. He displayed elite strikeout stuff with home run and run prevention skills.
The 25-year-old lefty flashed his upside in 2021, and he has the potential to reach that level again. The year after his spectacular rookie season, Rogers made some slight changes that may have affected his performance. If the Marlins organization can hone in on those adjustments, Rogers could return to form. He looked effective in his minor league starts before the setback, so they may have found the tweaks they sought.
Injuries are a part of baseball, and sometimes players have setbacks while on IL, but Rogers is the type of player worth monitoring. The young starter was a top pitcher in fantasy and an NL Rookie of the Year finalist as recently as 2021. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on injury updates for Rogers and stash if they have an extra slot available.
