Milwaukee Brewers' No. 4 prospect Robert Gasser made his major league debut earlier this season. Despite owning a 5.25 ERA in three starts at Triple-A in 2024, Milwaukee needed a healthy arm in its rotation. So, in came Gasser, who made his debut on April 10.
After throwing six scoreless innings with four strikeouts against the St. Louis Cardinals in the first start of his career, it was pretty apparent that he would stay in the Brewers' rotation. That happened to be the case as Gasser started the next four games for Milwaukee.
But, following his outing against the Chicago White Sox on June 1, Gasser felt some pain in his left elbow. As a result, the left-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list. So, when will the rookie return and be back? Will he pitch again this season? Let's dive in and find out.

Robert Gasser Injury Update for Fantasy Baseball
The latest injury to Gasser is surely a tough break for the surprising rookie. He had a 2.57 ERA and 16 strikeouts over five starts while issuing only one walk. Now, there's a chance that the rookie's season could be over after experiencing some elbow pain following his last start on June 1.
A couple of days after that outing, the Brewers placed Gasser on the 15-day IL on June 5 with a left flexor strain in his elbow. Then, the left-hander sought a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who went on to say that the pitcher's ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) "wasn't as strong as it should be."
While there wasn't a break in his elbow, the latest report from ElAttrache was not a great sign. As a result, the left-hander will now seek out another opinion. However, there's a good chance that the rookie's season is over after manager Pat Murphy said, "We're probably not going to see [Gasser]" for the rest of the year.

Robert Gasser Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Gasser's potential season-ending injury is tough for any fantasy manager who scooped him off waivers. He was set to become a reliable fantasy option in his first year in the majors. But now that his season is likely over, he can be safely dropped in all formats.

In dynasty formats, hold him in one of your IL slots because the future is bright for the 25-year-old pitcher. It'll be interesting to see what Gasser eventually decides to do with his elbow injury. If he elects to undergo Tommy John surgery, dynasty owners could expect the southpaw to miss 12 to 16 months. That means he will likely miss all of the 2024 season and a large portion of the 2025 campaign. Still, he's definitely worth an IL stash.
