NFL fans around the world suffered a scare when San Francisco wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in a robbery attempt. Thankfully, Pearsall ended up being okay and was released from the hospital quickly.

Ricky Pearsall's Latest Injury Update - September 17
Less than a week after the shooting, Pearsall was back on the practice field watching his teammates and back in the weight room continuing his training. It was an incredible recovery for Pearsall, and we're all lucky the injury he suffered was minor (relative to the average shooting injury).

While Pearsall was placed on injured reserve by the 49ers, it's likely this was precautionary. This type of injury is fickle, and the 49ers want to be extremely cautious in managing his recovery, with good reason. There isn't much chance of complications given that Pearsall was released from the hospital so quickly.
Ricky Pearsall Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Pearsall shouldn't suffer any long-term effects from the shooting. His play most likely won't be affected. He's likely working with the 49ers medical staff and trainers on any physical therapy that needs to be done to help his body heal fully from the wound.
Pearsall doesn't seem to have any obstacles in the way of him returning after the mandatory four-game absence all players must face on injured reserve, but we don't have much more information about a return timetable. That information is likely to come out within the next two weeks.

Ricky Pearsall Fantasy Football Outlook
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan likely has a role envisioned for Pearsall, but it will matter whether fellow WR Deebo Samuel Sr. has returned to practice. Samuel, Aiyuk, and Kittle are more than enough to absorb the vast majority of QB Brock Purdy's passing volume, and the 49ers aren't a pass-heavy team anyway.
If Pearsall returns before Samuel, he could have an expanded role and potentially be worth a flex spot start. That being said, it's unlikely, and Pearsall likely competes for the WR3 spot. Aiyuk, Samuel, and Kittle, when all healthy, are the top three receiving options in this offense.
