Before the 2022 season, the Colorado Rockies made one of the biggest moves of the offseason by signing former National League MVP Kris Bryant. But since agreeing to a seven-year, $182 million deal with Bryant, the third baseman/outfielder has not lived up to those expectations.
Not only has Bryant struggled at the plate over the past three years, but injuries have also played a big factor. After playing just 42 games in 2022 and 80 games in 2023, the four-time All-Star was hoping to stay healthy in 2024.
However, that hasn't been the case for Bryant this season. He landed on the 10-day injured list on April 17 with a back issue and now is on the IL again with a left rib contusion. So, when will Bryant return and be back? Let's dive in and find out.

Kris Bryant Injury Update for Fantasy Baseball
It has been a couple of years to forget for Bryant in Colorado as he continues to deal with injuries. During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he was placed on the IL on five different occasions due to multiple injuries. He dealt with a back strain, a foot injury, a bruised heel, and a fractured finger.
In 2024, he injured his back early in the season and spent over one month on the IL with a low back strain. Now, he is back on the IL with a rib contusion after bumping against a wall at Dodger Stadium trying to catch a foul ball.
#Rockies manager Bud Black said Kris Bryant didn’t respond well to treatment today is headed to the IL.

It's another tough injury break for Bryant, who just can't stay healthy at this point of his career. Manager Bud Black said that the former NL MVP is progressing from his rib injury but also reiterated that there is no timetable set for his return. Given his long injury history, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him miss the rest of June.
Kris Bryant Fantasy Baseball Outlook
There is not much reason to roster Bryant in any fantasy format moving forward. He hasn't been able to stay healthy over the past few years, and even when he is active, he has struggled at the plate. This season, the 32-year-old is batting a mere .186 with two home runs, two doubles, and 10 RBI.

Those poor stats come after Bryant hit .233 with 10 HRs, 10 doubles, and 31 RBI in 80 games in 2023. Even with the veteran on the IL, there are better players to stash in one of your IL slots at this time. He doesn't have much fantasy upside in a bottom offense in the league. That's why the former MVP can be safely dropped in all formats.
