San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody is navigating a high ankle sprain that has sidelined him since Week 5. With Matthew Wright, the 49ers' backup kicker, also out, the team brought in Anders Carlson, who has been filling in effectively.
Moody made his first practice return this past Monday, a promising sign for those hoping to get him back in their lineups. With a high ankle sprain being a tricky injury for kickers, there is caution around his return.
How soon might he be back on the field, and what does this mean for fantasy teams? Let us discuss Moody's progress and what you should know about his potential Week 10 return.

Jake Moody Injury Update
The 24-year-old suffered his high ankle sprain back in Week 5, keeping him off the field until he returned to practice on Monday. His recovery progress has been steady, and there is a good chance he will suit up in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, Moody himself has taken a cautious approach, telling reporters, "There's a chance. I'm not going to rush back into it, but there's always a chance."

During his absence, the 49ers also lost backup kicker Matthew Wright to shoulder and back injuries, leading to Anders Carlson stepping in. Carlson has proven to be reliable, making his field goals and extra points.
With the Michigan native practicing again and Week 10 in sight, there is optimism for his return, though the team will likely assess his readiness closer to game time.
Jake Moody Fantasy Football Outlook
Moody's potential return is good news for fantasy managers who relied on his early-season consistency. Before the injury, he successfully converted 13 of his 14 field goal attempts and all 12 extra points, proving his dependability as a fantasy kicker.

Given his accuracy and the 49ers' scoring opportunities, the second-year player can be a valuable asset once healthy. With Week 10 as a possible return target, it might be wise for fantasy managers to consider picking him up now if they need a kicker.
However, managers should monitor his game status updates throughout the week. If he suits up against the Buccaneers, he is worth a start in most leagues due to San Francisco's high-scoring potential. If the kicker is unavailable for Week 10, Carlson could remain a streaming option in deeper leagues until Moody is back in full form.
