Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith got out to a hot start in 2024, catching 21 of his 28 targets for 239 yards and one touchdown through his first three games of the year. Unfortunately, he was banged up in the Week 3 win over the New Orleans Saints, causing him to miss Week 4. The Eagles were on a bye in Week 5, so fantasy managers have been without him for two straight matchups.
Fellow wideout A.J. Brown hasn't played since Week 1, so Philly has lacked pass-catching talent for the first month of the campaign. Surely, fantasy managers are wondering when Smith will return to action.
When is Smith returning, and what is his fantasy football outlook when he comes back? Let's dive into his latest injury update.

DeVonta Smith Injury Update
Smith (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 3 and has not played since. However, the former Heisman Trophy winner is expected to return in Week 6 to face the Cleveland Browns. Brown (hamstring) is also likely to return, so the Eagles are trending toward having their top skills guys together for just the second time this season.
My understanding is the #eagles are expecting to have their top WRs A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) back this week vs the #browns.

It would have been nice to get a few more games from Smith without Brown in the lineup, but he's proven to produce spike weeks despite playing with the Pro Bowl teammate at the same position. It will have been three weeks between Smith's concussion and Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, so it would be somewhat of a surprise if Smith does not suit up.
DeVonta Smith Fantasy Football Outlook
Last year, the Cleveland Browns had one of the top defenses in the NFL and were a worrisome matchup for wide receivers. In 2024, that has not been the case. Cleveland has given up the 11th-most fantasy points per game to wideouts through Week 5, making Smith a clear must-start once again in Week 6.
Smith is a volatile receiver with ups and downs, but he has WR1 upside in most matchups, and Philadelphia should be prepared to dominate the struggling Browns coming off a bye. RotoBaller's top rankings expert Nick Mariano has Smith slotted in the WR22 spot early in the week.
