DeVonta Smith’s 2024 fantasy football season has been a rollercoaster, with injuries and inconsistency derailing what many hoped would be a breakout campaign.
After missing the last two games with a hamstring injury, Smith is expected to return in Week 14 for a matchup against the Carolina Panthers. While his return provides a glimmer of hope for fantasy managers, it’s been a frustrating season for those who invested in the talented wideout.
This marks the second time Smith has missed action this year, as he was sidelined earlier in the season with a concussion after taking a dirty hit to the head against the New Orleans Saints. So, should we expect Smith back for our lineups in Week 14?

DeVonta Smith Injury Update
Statistically, Smith has been a disappointment in 2024. Through 10 games, he’s logged just 41 receptions for 516 yards and four touchdowns—a far cry from the production fantasy managers had envisioned.
Once a focal point of the Eagles’ passing attack, Smith’s involvement has waned, and he hasn’t been able to establish the kind of rhythm that makes a wide receiver reliable in fantasy lineups. Whether due to injuries or a shifting offensive philosophy, Smith has struggled to meet expectations this year.

One of the key factors impacting Smith’s fantasy output has been the emergence of Philadelphia’s running game, led by Saquon Barkley. Barkley has completely transformed the Eagles’ offense, making the ground attack the centerpiece of their game plan.
While this has been a boon for the team in real-life football, it’s come at the expense of Smith’s targets and opportunities. With the Eagles leaning on their dominant rushing attack, the passing game has taken a backseat, and Smith’s production has suffered as a result.
DeVonta Smith Fantasy Football Outlook
Heading into Week 14, Smith faces a favorable matchup against the Panthers, but expectations should be tempered. Carolina’s defense has struggled at times, particularly against the pass, but Smith’s recent injuries and the Eagles’ run-heavy approach make him a risky option.
For fantasy managers, Smith should be viewed as a flex play with some upside, especially if the Eagles lean more on the passing game to complement Barkley. However, his lack of consistent volume this season remains a concern.
Personally I am not risking a not 100% Devonta Smith at this point of the season... especially when its a hamstring issue
But we will see soonpic.twitter.com/08adnhIXfS

As the fantasy playoffs approach, Smith’s return to the lineup is a welcome sight, but his overall outlook remains cloudy. He has the talent to deliver big performances, but the combination of injuries, a reduced role, and a dominant running game has capped his potential. Fantasy managers will need to weigh the risk and reward carefully when deciding whether to start Smith in Week 14 and beyond.
