New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr has missed the past two games with a left oblique strain, but he took part in a throwing session on Monday.
Does this mean that Carr is close to getting back on the football field? Will he play against the Chargers in Week 8?
When will Carr return to action, and what is his fantasy football outlook when he does? Let's dive in.

Derek Carr Injury Update
Carr has been out for the past two games with an oblique injury. The team has turned to rookie Spencer Rattler with Carr out, which hasn't gone particularly well for New Orleans.
The Saints won't be changing their plans at quarterback. If Derek Carr can't return this week, Spencer Rattler will start, not Jake Haener:https://t.co/koGLXnas2S

It sounds like Carr is getting closer to returning, but it doesn't sound like he'll be back this week against Los Angeles.
According to ESPN's Katherine Terrell, head coach Dennis Allen said, "I think we're getting closer. Do I think he's going to be ready for the Charger game? I'm not sure. I think that's questionable."
Allen said, "I think it's certainly very likely for the following week. But I think we've got to just kind of go through the process and see how he does over the next three or four days, and that'll probably give us a much clearer picture of his availability for this weekend."
It sounds like the goal is for Carr to return in Week 9 against the Panthers.
Derek Carr Fantasy Football Outlook
Derek Carr was having a strong season before the injury, but reproducing that when he gets back on the field might be tough. A big part of what made him dangerous was his deep-ball connection with Rashid Shaheed, but Shaheed is done for the year with a knee injury.
Rashid Shaheed career: 18% tprr, 1.97 yprr
Rashid Shaheed 2024: 23.3% tprr, 2.04 yprr
115 targets- 65 reception - 1150 yards - 10 TD pace with Derek Carr
Interrupted in the middle of a breakout season, MASSIVE buy.

Carr should be viewed as a low-end fantasy QB2 once he returns. He'll have some good games, but he's also been picked off in four of his five starts this season.
