The Colorado Rockies are having injury issues in 2023. The number of players they have on the injured list has reached double digits.
They want to show their fans they have improved from a season ago, but that's been an increasingly difficult challenge without a healthy roster. However, there is optimism growing that one of the key members of the team is making strides in his recovery and may be able to rejoin the club this season. That man is second baseman, Brendan Rodgers.
How much longer will Brendan Rodgers be on the IL? Will he play this season? Let's take a look at the latest reports and find an answer.

Brendan Rodgers Injury Update
Rodgers has been a promising young talent ever since he was picked third overall by the Rockies in the 2015 MLB draft. He has yet to live up to the hype, but if he can get healthy, there is still time for him to deliver. The second baseman is currently recovering from surgery performed during spring training on his non-throwing shoulder to repair a torn labrum. He still has weeks and maybe even months to go before a potential return, but he has started doing baseball activities.
According to reports, the 26-year-old is slated to begin hitting drills later this week. He is slowly beginning his journey back to the majors and has also started running the basepaths along with fielding ground balls. If all goes according to plan, the team and Rodgers hope he can rejoin the Rockies sometime in August.
Brendan Rodgers Fantasy Baseball Outlook
In 137 games played last season, Rodgers hit 13 home runs with 63 RBIs while hitting for a .266 avg. In his brief MLB career, the Florida native has yet to break out as a true star in the majors. However, if he can get fully healthy and put together a full season, he has all the talent to do just that.
For fantasy owners hoping for a big impact from Rodgers in 2023, don't hold your breath. If, as he and the team suggest, he does make a late summer return, he probably won't add much value. He is certainly worth adding in keeper leagues, and at the very least, it will certainly be worth monitoring his progress for 2024.
Since he is still early in his rehab and it's uncertain if he will even suit up this season, predicting his fantasy impact for both the immediate and long-term future is impossible. However, if you have the roster space and are in need of a middle infielder, there is no reason you shouldn't gamble on the 2022 gold glove award winner and promising young slugger moving forward.
