Travis Kelce has been an elite tight end for years. His resume includes multiple Pro Bowl appearances and four All-Pro selections.
He’s also a three-time Super Bowl champion. Unfortunately, Kelce is coming off a down year. After posting seven straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, he ended the 2023-24 campaign with only 984 receiving yards.
He also found the end zone five times, a seven-score reduction from 2022-23. Then, there’s the topic of durability, with Kelce missing a few games due to injury.

As a result, the veteran’s preseason fantasy ranking has taken a hit. Last season, it wasn’t uncommon to see Kelce get selected in the first round of fantasy drafts, no matter the format.
However, things are different entering this season, with the 34-year-old ranked No. 39 overall in PPR setups (Yahoo). Unlike previous years, fantasy managers aren’t as confident in Kelce’s fantasy potential.
But is this justified? In some ways, yes. However, there is reason to believe he’ll turn things around this season.
Travis Kelce Fantasy Football Outlook
Kelce went cold toward the end of last season, failing to find the end zone in his last six games. Yet, he was back to his former self during the playoffs.
He caught seven passes for 71 yards during the Wild Card meeting with the Dolphins. Although Kelce had just five receptions in the Divisional Round versus Buffalo, he had two touchdowns.
He ended the postseason by posting two more productive showings versus the Ravens in the AFC Championship and against the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, bringing in 20 of his 21 targets for 209 yards and a score.
Will his playoff production carry over into this season? Of course, there’s no way to say with 100 percent certainty that it will.
However, Kelce has acknowledged his shortcomings in 2023-24. He was also focused on getting in the best shape possible during the offseason, which could help him stay healthy.
When Should I Draft Travis Kelce in Fantasy Football?
The Chiefs have plenty of capable pass-catchers on the roster, with the team adding Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy this offseason.
Kansas City also has Rashee Rice, who had an impressive rookie year. Still, Kelce should remain Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target, so it's certainly possible for him to once again finish the season as the top fantasy tight end.
Although there’s nothing wrong with choosing Sam LaPorta over Kelce during fantasy drafts, nobody should criticize anyone for doing the opposite.
Either way, fantasy managers should feel comfortable drafting him anywhere after the first round.
