Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is coming off the best season of his career since entering the NFL as a first-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2020. Dak Prescott's No. 1 target led the league in receptions and was second among wideouts in receiving yards and touchdowns.
His success in 2023 suggests he should be in contention for the first overall pick in fantasy football drafts, but his current standing with the organization clouds his outlook in 2024.
What is Lamb's fantasy football outlook, and when should you draft him in 2024? Let's dive in.

CeeDee Lamb Fantasy Football Outlook
After posting 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns in Lamb's fourth NFL campaign, he established himself as a clear Tier 1 pass-catcher in the league and fantasy football. The 25-year-old incredibly posted eight games with at least 25.0 PPR fantasy points and four games with at least 32.0 PPR fantasy points.
His 40.2-point week against the Detroit Lions in Week 17 won fantasy championships for managers and cemented his status as a top target in 2024.
However, Lamb is looking to get paid, and he has not been with the team this preseason. The Cowboys are rumored to have offered him $33 million per year, but he likely wants at least $35 million per year, which is what Justin Jefferson signed for this offseason. If Lamb was with the team all offseason and wasn't undergoing contract negotiations, he'd arguably be the clear No. 1 overall pick in PPR leagues. Now, his situation is more complicated.
When Should I Draft CeeDee Lamb in Fantasy Football?
There are many kinds of fantasy managers. Some search for safety in the early rounds, while others throw caution to the wind and shoot for ceiling outcomes. If you're on the safer side, you might want to avoid Lamb if you have a top-five pick. However, if he slips past the 1.05 slot, it's probably time to stop the fall. The risk is worth the potential payoff.
It's hard to imagine Lamb won't be out there for America's Team in Week 1, especially given the lack of high-end wideouts behind him on the depth chart. Brandin Cooks looks well beyond his prime, while Jalen Tolbert hasn't done anything to impress during the first two seasons of his career.

That said, if you're not scared of the dice roll, picking Lamb anywhere between the No. 1 and No. 5 overall pick is reasonable. He still has arguably the highest upside of any wide receiver, but if you prefer "safer" bets like Christian McCaffrey and Tyreek Hill, they have paths to being the top non-QB scorers in 2024, too.
