When is Zebby Matthews getting called up? Will Zebby Matthews pitch in April of this MLB season? Read about Zebby Matthews' debut date and fantasy baseball prospect updates for 2025.
Minnesota Twins prospect Zebby Matthews has the potential to be an excellent major league pitcher one day. He commands the strike zone at an elite level and has an above-average cutter to go with his fastball.
That has all been on display in his four minor league seasons. Matthews has a career 3.10 ERA and 252 strikeouts across 220 1/3 innings pitched, which included a dominant minor league campaign in 2024 at High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A.
So, when are the Twins going to call up Matthews? Can we expect him to be in the majors in the next few weeks? Let's dive in and find out.

Zebby Matthews Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Since being drafted in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB Draft, Matthews has excelled in his 45 appearances (40 starts) across all five minor league levels. His best season came in 2024 when he jumped from High-A to Double-A to Triple-A to the majors in just a few months. After allowing just 16 earned runs in 78 combined innings at High-A and Double-A (1.85 ERA), he was promoted to Triple-A in July.
Although he struggled a bit in his four Triple-A starts last year, Matthews was soon called up by the Twins in the middle of August. Like any rookie, though, he had a hard time making an immediate impact in the majors. In nine starts with Minnesota, he gave up 28 earned runs across 37 2/3 IP(6.69 ERA) and didn't throw a quality start in any of those outings.
Zebby Matthews so far in Triple-A...

However, Matthews should find himself in the majors again very soon. He has looked fantastic at Triple-A to begin the season, and his promotion should be coming very shortly. The right-hander has allowed just three runs in his three starts with Triple-A St. Paul this year while issuing just two walks.
Zebby Matthews Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
With Pablo Lopez (hamstring) nearing a return from his injury, Matthews might have to wait a little longer to be called up. Nonetheless, it's only a matter of time until the 24-year-old replaces Simeon Woods Richardson or Chris Paddack in Minnesota's rotation. Woods Richardson has a 4.74 ERA in four appearances this season, and Paddack has had some rough starts this season.

Therefore, there's a good chance that Matthews will be called up sometime in May. If he can continue to put up strong starts in Triple-A, the Twins will have no choice but to call him up. With 17 straight games upcoming without any off days for Minnesota, a promotion for the right-hander could come during this stretch. That makes the right-hander a solid stash candidate in most 12-plus team leagues.
