Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story has been plagued by injuries over the past few seasons. He only played in 94 games in 2022 and 43 games in 2023 as he battled through elbow, hand, and heel issues.
Story, though, was hoping for an injury-free year in 2024. Unfortunately, that won't be the case after the shortstop injured his shoulder on a diving attempt in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
So, how serious is Story's injury? When is he coming back? Let's dive in and find out.

Trevor Story Injury Update for Fantasy Baseball
Heading into fantasy drafts this season, Story had the potential to be a steal at his ADP if he stayed healthy. The former All-Star also put together a solid spring, where he hit .380 with three home runs and 14 RBI. That made him worth a pick in the final rounds.
While the start of his 2024 campaign wasn't anything special -- .226 average, three doubles, and four RBI in eight games -- he was a player to watch over the next few weeks. However, there's a strong chance his season is over after suffering a shoulder injury on April 6.
In a 2-2 count in the bottom of the fourth inning, Angels outfielder Mike Trout hit a ball between Story and third baseman Rafael Devers. Story tried to lay out for the grounder but landed hard on his left shoulder. He immediately left the game, and the Red Sox announced on Sunday that the 31-year-old dislocated his shoulder.

Trevor Story Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Story's injury on Saturday is tough news for a player who has dealt with his fair share of injuries over the past few years. While there isn't an exact timeline set on a potential return, there's a chance the shortstop will not be able to return in 2024. He will visit with a specialist on Monday to determine the true extent of the injury.
At the very least, Story will miss a large portion of the season -- making him a potential drop candidate this early in the season. If you are one of the 56% that rosters him in Yahoo leagues, you can slot him into one of your injured list slots for the time being as we wait for the official timeline.

With Story meeting with a specialist on Monday, we should know how long he will miss shortly after. There's a chance he could miss the rest of the 2024 season, and if that's the case, you can drop him in fantasy.
