New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga suffered a shoulder injury last month. He received a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection to counter his right shoulder strain. Based on the initial diagnosis, Senga was expected to remain sidelined for three weeks, but he missed another week before getting cleared for his throwing program.
Senga is the best pitcher on the Mets team, and his availability is huge for the team's chances to achieve anything significant this year. Unfortunately, the Mets will start the season without the Japanese star.
How long will Senga remain sidelined? What's the latest update regarding his return date? Let's take a look at his injury update ahead of the Mets' first game of the season against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kodai Senga Injury Update for Fantasy Baseball
According to recent reports, Kodai Senga has received clearance for baseball activities. The 31-year-old ace will soon start his throwing program but is expected to miss the first month of the season.
Senga, who was the Rookie of the Year award finalist, will be heavily missed by the Mets at the start of the season. The NL East franchise is coming off a disappointing season in which they finished 75-87 and missed the playoffs.
With Senga out, the Mets rotation will feature Jose Quintana, Sean Manea, Luis Severino, Adrian Hauser, and Tylor Megill. Quintana will be the opening-day starter for the Mets, where he will go against the Brewers' Freddy Peralta.

Kodai Senga Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Kodai Senga had an impressive rookie season in the MLB with the Mets after he signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the franchise in 2022. He played 29 games last season, in which he pitched 166.1 innings and recorded 202 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.98.
Last year, Senga conceded 126 hits, 17 home runs, and walked 77 batters while averaging 10.93 strikeouts per nine innings. Transitioning from the NPB to the MLB is usually tough for pitchers, but given how well he pitched in his rookie season, Senga is expected to have a big season for the Mets this year. However, everything depends on his health. Barring any late setbacks, the Mets star should be able to pitch in May.
The New York Mets traded most of their star players, like Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, last year, and they don't have World Series expectations this season. As a result, they will not rush Senga back from his injury and will take all necessary care with the starting pitcher.
