Justin Fields Injury Update - November 15
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (thumb) is expected to return from his four-game absence and start against the Detroit Lions in Week 11. Fields suffered a dislocated thumb during the Week 6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and has been sidelined ever since.
Before his injury, the third-year signal-caller was coming off overall QB1 and QB3 performances. He will have immediate upside against the Lions, who have surrendered the 10th-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Although his team will be outmatched, and he could have a low floor, he's probably worth starting in leagues of at least 12 teams. His fantasy upside rivals any player in the NFL due to his rushing prowess.
Justin Fields Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields exited the team's Oct. 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings with a thumb injury. He was 6-for-10 for 58 yards and had eight carries for 46 yards at the time he left the game.
Fields hasn't played since, but there's been optimism that he's nearing a return. However, it appears that return won't happen on Thursday night when the Bears take on the Carolina Panthers.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports that while Fields, who is officially listed as doubtful for Thursday's game, is not expected to play. Tyson Bagent will quarterback the Bears once again.
Justin Fields Fantasy Football Outlook
Once he's back on the football field, Justin Fields is a solid fantasy QB1 play because of his explosive speed. He has eight or more carries in four of the six games he's played this season.
Fields has also taken a bit of a leap as a passer. Over the last two full games that the Bears QB played, he completed 67.2% of his passes for 617 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception. He also added 82 rushing yards across those two games.
Bagent has proven to be a decent backup, but he tossed three interceptions last week against the Saints. He used his feet in a Fields-like manner though, finishing with 70 rushing yards. He doesn't have the upside of Fields in fantasy, but is a solid QB2 option on Thursday against a struggling Panthers team.
