De'Von Achane Latest Injury Update - November 21
De'Von Achane is day-to-day with an injury to the same knee that he injured earlier this season. He has not been ruled out, but he has not been cleared to play on Friday against the New York Jets either. Due to the timing of the game, Achane will have two fewer days to heal than he would have in a usual week.
De'Von Achane Injury Update for Fantasy Football
De'Von Achane will not require surgery, the Miami Dolphins confirmed. That's the good news. In fact, the running back himself wanted to get back on the field in Miami last week. The Dolphins coaching staff kept him out as a precaution.
The word from the Dolphins that he had been held out due to an abundance of caution is optimistic for fantasy managers. It suggests his injury was minor. On the other hand, the statement that he is "day-to-day" is a little bit less so. That makes it sound like his status is muddled and that he could miss time--particularly given how careful the Dolphins have been and how they are favorites to beat the New York Jets.
De'Von Achane Fantasy Football Outlook
Fantasy managers rostering De'Von Achane were excited to start him last week in his first game back, but he ultimately didn't help them. He only gained one yard on one carry.
When he is fully healthy, however, Achane is a week-winner. In his three games with eight or more carries, Achane has averaged 151.7 yards and 2.33 touchdowns per game. He's averaging an unreal 11.82 yards per carry.
The New York Jets have a quality defense overall, but opposing running backs do gain yards on them. The Jets are allowing the tenth-most fantasy points and the eighth-most rushing yards to opposing running backs. A healthy Achane is a must-start in any matchup, and the Jets' defense isn't tough enough to change that.
It might still be worth holding Achane out, however, if you aren't confident in how he will be used. If Achane is good to go, then you can choose to start him and chase the high upside or bench him in favor of someone with a safer floor.
