It was only a matter of time until Baltimore Orioles' No. 3 prospect, Coby Mayo, made his major league debut. He has torn it up at the minor league level since getting drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft. In 2022, Mayo hit .290 with 29 home runs, 45 doubles, and 99 RBI across 140 games.
That strong season at the plate continued for the 22-year-old this year, as he hit .308 with 23 HRs, 25 doubles, and 67 RBI in 81 minor league games. As a result, the Orioles did the right thing and called him up just a couple of days ago.
So, when did Mayo get called up? What is his fantasy baseball outlook for the rest of the season? Let's dive in and find out.
Coby Mayo Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
After infielders Jorge Mateo (elbow) and Jordan Westburg (hand) landed on the injured list, the Orioles decided to call up Mayo on August 2. With Mateo and Westburg likely done for the season due to their respective injuries, MLB Pipeline's No. 15 overall prospect should see most of the starts at third base moving forward.

Mayo could also fill in at first base if need be. He started 19 games there at Triple-A this season while having a .956 fielding percentage. As a result, expect the 22-year-old to see consistent playing time. That has certainly been the case so far in his young career, as the infielder has started all three games since being called up.
Coby Mayo Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
Mayo made his major league debut on August 2, playing third base and hitting eighth. While he went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in his first career game, he did walk twice in that contest. Since being called up, though, the rookie is 0-for-9 with five strikeouts.
Through 3 MLB games, #Orioles prospect Coby Mayo is 0-for-9 with 5 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 run scored.
Jackson Holliday was also hitless after 9 MLB at-bats, and now, he's back and tearing it up.
If Mayo follows the same path, he'll be just fine.

It is a slow start for Mayo to begin his major league career after he put up strong numbers at the minor league level this season. However, he is still a must-rostered player in all formats ahead of Week 20 of the MLB season. He has the power and hit tool to be a consistent fantasy option over the final two months. So, despite the hitless performance over the weekend, the 22-year-old should be picked up in all leagues, considering he'll see consistent playing time in Baltimore.
