When is Coby Mayo getting called up? Will Coby Mayo play in June of this MLB season? Read about Coby Mayo debut date and fantasy baseball prospect updates for 2024.
At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, Coby Mayo might be the best hitter in all of minor league baseball right now.
And while the Orioles have given other prospects such as Jackson Holliday, Colton Cowser, Kyle Stowers, and Connor Norby a shot with the big league club, Mayo has yet to make his MLB debut in 2024.
So how soon until we see Coby Mayo in Camden Yards? Let's investigate his chances a bit further.
Coby Mayo Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Mayo suffered an injury that set him back for nearly a month, as he was out of action from May 16 until June 13. He was on pace for his best minor league season yet before getting hurt.

But the good news is that Mayo has been even better since returning from injury. He spent a few games down at Single-A Aberdeen and smashed three home runs in four games but has since returned to Triple-A Norfolk for the last week. Since returning from injury, he's hitting a cool .350 at Norfolk with a .435 OBP and .600 SLG.
Coby Mayo Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
Mayo is a fourth-round pick who has excelled at every stop in the minors. He has a major-league frame as he stands six-foot-five inches tall and weighs 230 pounds. His power seems effortless, and he's slowly improved his plate discipline and contact skills each year.
With Coby Mayo returning last night it’s a great time to talk about his UNREAL Potential. @DavidHallVP has seen a lot of baseball up close over the years and I think #Birdland will enjoy his comparisons. pic.twitter.com/40yWrKIRTb

He's just 22 years old but has proven himself worthy of the final promotion with his play this season. While the outfield is crowded in Baltimore, the infield might be easier to crack as Baltimore is currently playing Jordan Westburg at third base and a combination of Jorge Mateo and Ramon Urias at second base. Mayo presents an upgrade over Mateo and Urias and would allow the Orioles to move Westburg over to second base, which is a more natural position for him.
There's no official word from the team about a promotion date, but with Holliday on the injured list and all the other young hitters already having made their debuts, I think it's safe to assume that Mayo's name could be called here quite soon. He could be a real difference-maker in the second half if he can nail down the third-base job and prove that he can hit at the next level.
