Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers has 38 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown since joining the team via a trade from the Los Angeles Rams. He's been a solid backup running back for the team.
However, an injury suffered in Week 9 puts Akers' future in doubt. He had eight carries for 25 yards and three receptions for 13 yards before exiting the game.
When is Akers coming back to action? What is his fantasy football outlook when he returns? Let's dive in.

Cam Akers Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers appears to be done for the 2023 NFL season, as he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Akers has been placed on the Injured Reserve, which will keep him out for at least four games, but a torn Achilles means more than just a minimum stay on IR. No matter how fast his recovery is, Akers won't be back on the field in 2023.
Further complicating matters is that this is the second major Achilles injury of Akers' career. Considering this is one of the toughest injuries for a running back to come back from, there's serious doubt about Akers' NFL future now.
Cam Akers Fantasy Football Outlook
Cam Akers won't play again this season, so fantasy managers in redraft leagues can safely drop the 24-year-old running back. Managers in dynasty leagues should hold onto him.
Based on the timing of this injury, there's no guarantee that Akers will even be ready to play by the start of the 2024 season though, so dynasty managers shouldn't expect a bounce-back 2024 campaign. Akers will be a free agent following this season, so there's no telling where the former Rams running back will even end up.
With Akers done for the year, Alexander Mattison gets a boost and is a solid fantasy RB2 play going forward. As for the backup role, Ty Chandler gets a bump but is unlikely to have a major fantasy impact over the remainder of the season. Still, he might be worth adding to see if he can carve out a larger role.
