For now, Aaron Rodgers’ 2023 NFL season with the New York Jets lasted just four snaps. A dark cloud casts over the franchise’s high hopes after Leonard Floyd’s sack triggered what turned out to be a ruptured Achilles injury.
The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player shared that he underwent an innovative surgery to shorten his recovery period. Jets fans and fantasy football owners rekindled their hope after seeing him throw without crutches before the Jets’ Week 6 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Is that enough indication that Rodgers can return this season? Or are there any hiccups during his rehabilitation process? Despite the promising optics, retaking the field this season is improbable.

Aaron Rodgers Latest Injury Update - November 15
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) told Melissa Stark of NBC Sports that his goal is to return by mid-December from his Achilles tear that he suffered in Week 1. If he was able to return at that point, it would help the team make a playoff push if they happen to be close enough to a postseason berth.
It would be an unbelievably fast recovery process, but he would surely give the team a greater chance at making the playoffs than Zach Wilson. Fantasy managers will want to stay tuned to any more updates on Rodgers' recovery along the way as he'd likely make the Jets' offense more fantasy relevant if he returns.
Aaron Rodgers Injury Update
As written by Jets reporter Caroline Hendershot, Rodgers is making “smaller gains” in rehab, unlike in the previous weeks wherein he was flying through his recovery. As shared during his regular appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, his goal now is to walk normally.
He looked normal when he tossed the ball while standing on his weight before the Week 6 Jets-Eagles showdown. But to pump the breaks, he’s nowhere near full recovery. Rodgers even shared with McAfee that recovering from an Achilles injury is the most challenging rehab process he has gone through.
Rodgers mentioned it’s a harrowing ordeal because the Achilles must work together with the calf, tibia, and foot muscles.
Aaron Rodgers Injury Return Date
The Jets are 4-3 coming into the game versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Anything is possible after giving the Eagles their first defeat this season in Week 6. Therefore, there’s a glimmer of hope that the Jets will snatch a playoff berth for the first time in over a decade.
If that happens, will Aaron Rodgers be healthy enough to play in the postseason? That’s not a guarantee. Walking alone is far from keeping his feet moving when defensive linemen come for him. He mentioned returning at some point during his recent appearance on the Manningcast alternate Monday Night Football coverage.
Most likely, that "some point" will be next season. They’d rather shut him down than play meaningless games, even if he makes a miraculous recovery this year,
