The Miami Marlins received a much-needed boost to their starting rotation after they landed lefty Wei-Yin Chen from the Baltimore Orioles. Chen was a solid complement to Ubaldo Jimenez in Baltimore and should fare just as well alongside Jose Fernandez. Chen’s 3.34 ERA was tops for the Orioles in 2015 and seventh-lowest in the American League. Only once last year did Chen finish a single month with an ERA higher than 4.00, and from June 4 – July 21, he went seven consecutive starts without allowing more than 2 ER.
Though solid in its own right, Chen’s 2015 campaign was a regression from his monster 2014 season where he finished with a 16-6 record and a 3.54 ERA. Still, his 11-8 mark in 2015 is a major improvement for Miami’s rotation.
