Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 9 Tight Ends
Coby Fleener. Fleener did not play this week with Indianapolis having a bye, but he has a strong performance in Week 7, catching five passes for 38 yards and one TD. This was the second receiving touchdown in his last four games played, and he is averaging 10.68 yards per catch on the season. He could have issues in his next, as he goes up against the best pass defense in the NFL-- the Texans are just allowing 145.6 passing yards a game, so Fleener might have difficulty getting separation. You might consider sitting Fleener for a better matchup in Week 9.
Tim Wright. Wright had a solid Week 8 against the Panthers with five receptions for 48 yards and one TD. He's benefiting from QB Mike Glennon throwing the ball a ton-- Glennon attempted 51 passes in Week 8. I would normally recommend sitting Wright because he is going up against a stellar defense in Seattle, but with Glennon throwing the ball so much there is potential for a big game. It's worth noting that Wright qualifies at WR in Yahoo! leagues.
Scott Chandler. Chandler was terrific in his most recent game, catching seven balls for a total of 72 yards. This is a huge leap in his production. Over his past two games, Chandler has only caught four passes for 65 yards. He has a tough matchup in Week 9, going up against the strong Chiefs defense which allows just 205.8 pass yards a game. I would still start him, because he's averaging more than 11 yards per reception, so he wouldn't need a lot of targets to put in a solid fantasy performance.
Brandon Myers. Myers played well in Philadelphia on Sunday, with three catches for 42 yards. This was his first decent game since Week 2 against Denver, a game in which he caught six passes for 74 yards. In Week 10, he will go up against the Oakland Raiders, who are allowing 241 pass yards a game. This might be the game where Myers finally breaks out of his slump.
