Hello RotoBallers and welcome back to Break The Slate, our DraftKings NFL DFS Lineup Picks for Week 8! I appreciate you joining me in our season-long quest to find the best plays at each position for every DraftKings Main Slate.
Week 7 proved to be a big one for this article, as last week's write-up featured Joe Burrow, Josh Jacobs, and Kenneth Walker III...all players that were near the top of the slate in DFS scoring. We'll try to keep that positive momentum going in Week 8, but there are some challenges ahead, as popular DFS teams such as Buffalo, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, and Cincinnati are not available to us on the Main Slate in Week 8. Despite the seeming lack of options, we'll dig in and try to identify some of the best plays available at each position on this slate.
These DraftKings lineup recommendations are based on matchups, projected DK points and ownership, overall upside/talent levels, and opportunity, as well as factors such as Vegas odds, home-field advantage, and more. There are quite a few great plays available on DK for Week 8. DraftKings Quarterbacks - Week 8 DFS Picks
Jalen Hurts - PIT @ PHI ($8,300)
With Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow all off the Main Slate, Jalen Hurts is the clear-cut top option at the QB position in Week 8. You should be locking him into cash lineups without hesitation.
Philly’s signal caller has done everything asked of him in this offense this season. Hurts has been elite with his legs, as his 77 rushing attempts and six rushing TDs lead all QBs in the NFL. He’s also grown as a passer and is performing at a highly-efficient rate. Hurts is completing passes at a brisk 66.8% clip and his average of 8.2 yards per pass is tied for the third-highest mark in the NFL among QBs with at least five starts.
Hurts has looked matchup-proof this season, but draws a dream scenario against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8. This year’s version of the Steelers defense is certainly no Steel Curtain, as their struggling unit has allowed the NFL’s third-most passing yards (1,998) and seventh-most DK points (147.52) to opposing QBs.
Daniel Jones - NYG @ SEA ($5,700)
Danny Dimes heads into a juicy Week 8 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks fresh off his best performance of the season. Jones threw for 202 yards and a TD against Jacksonville last week, but more impressively, ran for 107 yards and a score on the ground.
While the gaudy rushing output is something of an outlier, it shouldn't be written off as a total fluke. Jones has been a consistent producer as a runner this season. His 5.9 yards per carry trails just Lamar Jackson among QBs, while his rushing attempts (58) and rushing yards (343) both rank inside the top five at the position.
Jones and the streaking Giants are set to square off against a Seattle unit that’s relinquished the NFL’s seventh-most rushing yards (151) and passing yards (1,833) to the QB position this year. With a sub-$6k price tag and desirable matchup, Jones is an excellent salary saver on a slate that’s fairly thin at the QB position.
DraftKings Running Backs - Week 8 DFS Picks
Derrick Henry - TEN @ HOU ($8,400)
The King’s mouth must be watering at the thought of this juicy matchup against the struggling Houston Texans. Fresh off getting destroyed by Josh Jacobs for 143 rushing yards and three TDs last week, this withering Houston run defense must now try to slow down Derrick Henry in Week 8. I don’t like their chances.
Tennessee has shown a consistent willingness to feed Henry the ball and he comes in on the heels of a 30-carry,128-yard performance against the Colts. The Titans never need much of an excuse to lean on Henry and that will especially be the case this week, as Ryan Tannehill enters this game against Houston nursing an ankle injury. Simply put, this is a smash spot for Henry.
Tony Pollard - CHI @ DAL ($6,100)
This one will require a bit of monitoring throughout the week, as Dallas’ Ezekiel Elliott is currently listed as Questionable. Obviously, if Zeke is out, Tony Pollard would become an auto-play in cash-game formats. Even if Elliott does try to tough it out, we can expect Pollard’s already-increasing role to see a boost, which puts him squarely in the GPP conversation.
Despite being the more explosive back, Pollard has – frustratingly – continued to play second fiddle to Elliott this year. However, he actually saw more snaps than Zeke in last week's win over Detroit, as he garnered a 65% snap share to Elliott's 49%. Unsurprisingly, the talented Pollard has been uber-efficient when he’s had the ball in his hands, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and reeling off four chunk plays of 20-plus yards on the ground. While the Chicago Bears' defense always feels like a tough matchup, they have been beatable on the ground this season. Chicago ranks 24th in the NFL in Rush Defense DVOA and has allowed the fifth-most rushing yards in the league (784) to the RB position.
Raheem Mostert - MIA @ DET ($5,900)
Raheem Mostert has steadily wrestled control of Miami’s backfield away from fellow offseason acquisition, Chase Edmonds. The usage discrepancy between the two continues to grow, as Mostert has out-touched Edmonds 35-to-11 over the Dolphins’ last two.
As Mostert’s role has solidified, his numbers have climbed. He comes into Week 8 on the heels of a strong performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in which he went for 79 yards on the ground, while also reeling in four passes for 30 yards and a score through the air.
This week he’ll square off against a Detroit Lions defense that’s ranked 31st in Total Defense DVOA and is roundly considered the worst unit in the league. The Lions have allowed the most rushing TDs in the NFL (10) and the third-most yards per carry (5.41) to opposing RBs.
DraftKings Wide Receivers - Week 8 DFS Picks
Chris Olave - LV @ NO ($6,000)
Chris Olave continues to impress during his rookie campaign. Forced to miss Week 6 while in concussion protocol, Olave bounced back in a big way against the Arizona Cardinals last week, hauling in seven catches for 106 yards on a ridiculous 14 targets. He's now topped the 100-yard mark in two of his first six NFL games.
With fellow Saints' wideouts, Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry, perpetually injured, Olave has emerged as the true alpha of this receiving corps. The rookie is averaging 9.5 targets per game and is garnering a massive 26.1% team target share. Sporting an impressive aDOT of 15.20, Olave will have opportunities for splash plays this week against a Las Vegas Raiders secondary that grades out just 30th in the NFL in Pass Defense DVOA.
D.J. Moore - CAR @ TB ($5,300)
It’s tough to completely trust any player on this Carolina offense at the moment, but D.J. Moore is a player this struggling squad appears committed to feeding. He was targeted 10 times in last week’s upset victory over Tampa Bay and put together his most productive game of the season as a result (7/69/1).
While we must keep in mind that Moore still has P.J. Walker throwing him the ball – though Walker looked like an upgrade from Baker Mayfield last week – his affordable $5.3k price tag and matchup against a struggling Atlanta Falcons secondary put him squarely in DFS consideration on this slate.
The Falcons are one of the biggest pass funnel defenses in the league, as they’ve been middling against the run but rank dead last in the NFL in Pass Defense DVOA. Fresh off a baptizing at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals’ receiving corps last week, Atlanta’s secondary is a literal MASH unit at the moment, with starting CB Casey Hayward currently on IR, safety Jaylinn Hawkins already ruled out for Week 8, and their other starting corner, A.J. Terrell, highly questionable to suit up against Carolina with a hamstring injury.
DraftKings Tight Ends - Week 8 DFS Picks
George Kittle - SF @ LAR ($5,700)
Welcome back, George Kittle! After missing the first two games of the season with an injury, Kittle has slowly but surely ramped things back up. He's now posted six or more catches and 80 or more yards in each of San Fran's last two.
Targeted 25 times over the Niners' last three, Kittle should once again be considered a true DFS separator at the often-sluggish TE position. With both Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews off the Week 8 Main Slate, Kittle's $5.7k is the highest at the position but is still significantly less than the $7k-plus price points we've seen for Kelce and Andrews as of late. His ceiling is the highest at the position this week and I'm willing to take an overweight position in GPPs.
Dalton Schultz - CHI @ DAL ($3,700)
The Cowboys' stud tight end quietly returned to the Dallas lineup alongside Dak Prescott last week against Detroit. Schultz reeled in all five of his targets for 49 yards in a game Dallas controlled throughout.
His role should continue to expand with Prescott's return and his improving health. The Week 8 matchup against Chicago is middling at best, but Schultz’s $3.7k price tag is simply too cheap for the upside he possesses in this offense.
