Week 23 Corner Infield Waiver Wire Targets
Brandon Moss, 1B/OF, St. Louis Cardinals (44 percent owned)
While Moss has yet to record a hit in September, he’s still batting .253/.328/.545 on the season, with 25 home runs. The only other players with that many dingers who are on the wire in the majority of leagues are Chris Carter and the guy we’ll look at next – who just so happens to be Moss’s teammate.
Jedd Gyorko, 1B/2B/3B/SS, St. Louis Cardinals (42 percent)
Gyorko has been a sneaky-excellent fantasy option in the second half, hitting .246/.312/.596 with 19 homers and 59 R+RBI in just 46 games since the break. He went deep on Monday for the 26th time this season, matching his total from the previous two seasons combined. As always, the Cardinals have managed to squeeze blood from the stone of a reclamation project. Gyorko’s pop and positional flexibility make him an great plug-and-play down the stretch.
C.J. Cron, 1B, Los Angeles Angels (30 percent)
In the lead-up to the All-Star break, Cron was raking – over a three-week span, he hit .351/.402/.689 with six homers and 38 R+RBI. Then he got hit by a pitch that broke his left hand and missed six weeks. It’s like that never happened. He went hitless in two of his first three games back, but has slashed .392/.392/.706 since, with multiple hits in six of those 12 contests. Prorate his current numbers to a full season and you get a .290 average, 73 runs, 26 homers, and 104 RBI. That’s starter-quality production.
Yangervis Solarte, 1B/2B/3B, San Diego Padres (23 percent)
Solarte’s breakout season hit a speed bump in August, but he’s already gone deep twice this month, with a .350 average and nine R+RBI in those five games. Ensconced in the middle of the Padres lineup, Solarte should continue to be a reliable source of run production, especially with plenty of games against the Diamondbacks and Rockies on his September schedule.
Adonis Garcia, 3B/OF, Atlanta Braves (13 percent)
Over the last two months, Garcia has been a solid four-category contributor, hitting .311/.360/.510 with eight homers, 33 runs, and 28 RBI. That’s despite spending a good chunk of that time hitting in the bottom half of the order for one of the worst teams in baseball. He’s been bumped up to the two-hole in recent weeks, though, which bodes well for his counting stats.
