Yes, I know that it's playoff time for a lot of you guys out there. You're trying to get an edge that will help you win your championship. I'll get to that. I promise. But first I'm gonna celebrate that Yadier Molina is now at 70% ownership in Fleaflicker. Since he hit the cutoff, he's not going to be on the list this week. Congratulations, Yadi! Even though I still hate you for all you did against the Mets. But that's neither here nor there.
Now back to our regularly scheduled column. We're in crunch time. What makes it tough is that there are roughly 40 billion new players brought up in September. That can make it tough for players to adjust to seeing Minor League pitching call-ups. Overall, these rough numbers could get even worse. But don't despair. There's still some waiver wire help out there.

Week 23 Waiver Wire Catchers
Brian McCann (NYY) 68% - Brian McCann showed he's definitely not dead yet, clubbing two homers on Thursday against Tampa Bay. The veteran is showing value despite the appearance of the Kraken, AKA Gary Sanchez. The Yankees have been energized of late, and McCann has swung a hot bat. He can feast on the Rays and then the Bombers face the Dodgers and the Red Sox. Grab him.
Stephen Vogt (OAK) 63% - Yes, Vogt went a little cold after closing out August with a modest six-game hit streak. It doesn't help that Oakland has been putrid, but he has series against the Mariners and the Royals coming up. He can do some damage against them. Worth a shot. If he has a hot week or so, that would be huge for you.
Matt Wieters (BAL) 58% - Wieters has been disappointing for a good amount of the season, but let's accentuate the positive here. Ever since his high water mark of a 5-for-5 day on Aug. 14, he's been hitting rather consistently. He's collected a hit in 10 games since then... sadly, not consecutive ones. Next up on the Orioles schedule: Detroit, Boston, and the Rays. If he gets some pitchers on off nights, he could fatten up that average. Take a chance.
Yasmani Grandal (LAD) 56% - OK. Grandal has to be the best second catcher choice in like, ever. He's hitting for power, with 24 homers. You need homers, especially in the playoffs. Should he go on another tear, he could be huge for you. The Dodgers will go up against the Marlins, Yanks, and Diamondbacks. Grandal could hit several long balls in the upcoming week.
Welington Castillo (ARI) 56% - Castillo proved that he is human. After a week-long stretch where he couldn't stop driving in runs, he's been relatively quiet the past few games. He was scratched on Wednesday but it doesn't seem like anything serious. The D-backs do face a tough one on Friday in Madison Bumgarner and then Johnny Cueto on Saturday, but after that, Castillo could feast on Matt Moore and then the pitching staff of the Colorado Rockies. Certainly worth a flyer as a No. 2 backstop.
Sandy Leon (BOS) 39% - Speaking of people who I think are machines, I think someone secretly replaced Leon with an android during the offseason last year. He's still at the .350 mark and has continued to be hot over the past week or so, getting at least one hit in eight of his past 10 games. Boston's going to need his help as they face Toronto, Baltimore, and the Yankees over the next week. He could be the answer as your No. 2.
