Kicker Streamers to Target in Week 17
All streamers in this article are rostered in under 60% of Yahoo leagues.
Matt Gay (IND) vs. Las Vegas Raiders (35% Rostered)
Indianapolis Colts kicker Matt Gay continues to make regular appearances on this list almost every week, but he is coming off a game where his team let him down. In Week 16, the Colts played from behind for the majority of the game, limiting Gay to just one extra point and one field goal attempt, resulting in a modest four-point day.
In Week 17, the Colts face the Raiders, who surprisingly rank in the bottom 10 in points allowed to kickers this season. It should be a bounce-back game for Gay and the Colts, considering their strong emphasis on the run game and the Raiders' 21st ranking in DVOA against the run. If the team can deliver an improved performance and move the ball downfield, Gay should be a solid option with upside.
Jake Moody (SF) at Washington Commanders (58% Rostered)
San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody remains a reliable, low-ceiling streaming option on a weekly basis. The rookie contributed six points with just one field goal attempt against a formidable Ravens' defense in Week 16, which hindered the dynamic 49ers' offensive performance. Although he has recorded just two games with 10 or more points since Week 3, Moody has been consistent, having not missed a kick since Week 7.
In Week 17, the 49ers face the Commanders, who have allowed the second-most points per game to kickers this season. With Washington ranking 31st in defensive DVOA, this appears to be a prime bounce-back game for San Francisco. Moody benefits from the high floor provided by the dynamic 49ers' offense on a weekly basis, and the favorable matchup against the Commanders could potentially result in a double-digit scoring performance for him.
Kickers to Avoid in Week 17
Fantasy players should always stream the kicker position. However, it’s important to avoid picking up and starting a kicker that will be a bust. Let’s see which two kickers you shouldn’t pick up off the waiver wire this week.
Greg Zuerlein (NYJ) at Cleveland Browns (7% Rostered)
New York Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein has delivered impressive performances, scoring 14 or more points in two of the last three games. In Week 16, he made all six kicks, including the go-ahead score from 54 yards out, capitalizing on a favorable matchup against the weak Commanders' defense.
However, the Jets' offense has struggled throughout the year, featuring a revolving door at the quarterback position. In Week 17, they face the Browns in Cleveland, a team that allows the second-fewest points per game to kickers this season. Cleveland ranks first in defensive DVOA and has maintained a formidable defense, particularly at home. Notably, no kicker has scored more than six points in a game against the Browns in Cleveland this year. Given the combination of a stingy defense and potentially challenging lake-effect weather, it is advisable to avoid relying on Zuerlein for fantasy points this week.
Joey Slye (WAS) vs. San Francisco 49ers (1% Rostered)
Washington Commanders kicker Joey Slye has struggled to produce high fantasy point totals this season, with a season-high of nine points and no field goal attempts in the last two games. Despite salvaging some points with four extra points in Week 16, the 27-year-old has attempted just two field goals in a game three times since Week 5.
In Week 17, the Commanders face a challenging matchup against the 49ers, a team that allows the 11th-most points per game to kickers this season. San Francisco's defense has consistently performed well, ranking fourth in defensive DVOA, making them a tough opponent for Washington. The uncertainty at the quarterback position, with fluctuations between Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett in recent weeks, adds another layer of unpredictability to the matchup. Given these factors, it's advisable to avoid relying on Slye in fantasy for Week 17.
