Week 16 Tight End (TE) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
At TE I am nervous with Jordan Reed. Reed has never had more than 38 yards in four career games against the Eagles. The Eagles have always dominated tight ends during the Chip Kelly era. That includes just five catches for 37 yards in their first matchup this season, one of his two worst games during a fantastic year.
The Eagles give up the second fewest points to tight ends while showing a weakness to WRs. Expect Kirk Cousins to target Desean Jackson heavily while Reed likely struggles. Because of the season Reed is having I still expect a solid day but I have him at TE7. That means it’s possible you may have a better alternative.
One player I do like is Reed’s opponent Zach Ertz. Ertz has seemed to develop some chemistry with Sam Bradford since Bradford recovered from his injury. Ertz has had nine yards and a touchdown followed by a season high 98 yards, and then a season high eight catches for 78 yards and a score in last week’s game.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Ertz so I am buying into this to an extent and see him as a good stream this week.
Lastly for a really deep option I like 49ers rookie TE Blake Bell. Bell has exceeded 40 yards in three of the past four games. For a sleeper TE owned by almost no one, that isn’t bad at all. I had feared the return of Vance McDonald from a concussion but he managed just 10 yards last week.
Bell also had 56 snaps to McDonald’s 39 so it looks like Bell is indeed the starter. The Lions give up the fourth most points to tight ends including a tie for the most touchdowns allowed at 11. If it’s a deep league and you need to take a flier, Bell is your guy this week.
