Week 16 Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
I have Ben Roethlisberger at the top of my list for the first time this season I believe. He’s earned it though. His touchdown and interception numbers don’t pop out - even considering his injury.
Ben has excelled at yardage this season, leading the league with 336 pass yards per game. That number is up to 366 per game over his past six games. In this matchup against the Ravens - a team particularly weak to WRs, the Steelers biggest asset on offense - He should pass for at least 300 yards and two touchdowns.
I honestly see that as his floor. 350 yards and four touchdowns seems very realistic as well. There was no point in spending this much time on a guy you were stating anyway, but Ben is my #1 QB play this week.
I am also high on Tyrod Taylor this week. The Dallas defense commands respect to a degree, especially after holding Ryan Fitzpatrick to just 15 fantasy points last week. However I believe Taylor’s rushing ability will offset any hit he takes as a passer this week.
Taylor has been using his feet more often over the last four games. During that time he has averaged seven runs for 52 yards. He has finished as QB5, QB6, QB13 and QB6 during that span. Having him at QB9 this week is not farfetched at all. He may only be worth 14 points as a passer but expect him to add at least 5 points as a runner. If he scores a rushing touchdown he likely finishes in the top five.
I have been intrigued by the improved play of Teddy Bridgewater over the last two weeks. That includes a career high 335 passing yards against Arizona and a career high five touchdowns (for a guy that never had more than two in a game previously) against Chicago.
Is it a mirage or is it real? It may not matter this week against the Giants. This Giants defense gives up the second most fantasy points to opposing QBs and the most passing yards. I think Bridgewater is a great stream this week and I have him at QB14, four spots ahead of his consensus rank.
One QB I am low on is Matthew Stafford at QB15. Despite being a bad team, the 49ers are far easier to run on than they are to pass against. They have actually only given up two passing touchdowns over their last four games. Stafford is very capable of putting up big numbers but I’m expecting the Lions to run a lot here, limiting Stafford’s upside.
