If you read this article for Week 13 and put your playoff hopes on the line with one of my suggested streams, you were rewarded with big days! Ryan Fitzpatrick had one of the best games of his career with 390 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Meanwhile Alex Smith had a very typical 162 passing yards and no interceptions, but added two pass touchdowns and a rushing score to give himself a really nice day. Hasselbeck struggled Sunday night
For this article I will look at two QBs owned in 50% or less of Fleaflicker leagues and another QB owned in 25% or less to account for the QB scarcity in 2QB leagues. There are definitely some good QBs readily available if you need a stream in what is the first week of the playoffs for many!
Standard League QB Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 14
Tyrod Taylor (BUF) @ Eagles
OWNED IN: 41% of Fleaflicker leagues
Tyrod has now had 25+ points in two consecutive games. Frankly I’m shocked his ownership is this low after the game he had against the Chiefs. He added three passing touchdowns again vs the Texans while also notching his first rushing touchdown since Week 5. Taylor looked a bit off in his previous two games but it’s clear he is locked in now.
He gets a very weak Eagles pass defense in Week 14. The Eagles have given up 13 pass touchdowns over their last three games. I’m expecting Sammy Watkins to tear up the Eagles secondary. Given the way that defense has played lately, I’m having a hard time not seeing Taylor in the top ten this week.
Jameis Winston (TB) vs Saints
OWNED IN: 48% of Fleaflicker Leagues
I don’t think I really need to say a whole lot here. We’ve gotten to the point where starting a QB against the Saints is just an automatic thing. The Saints are now up to a whopping 35 touchdowns allowed to six interceptions after giving up five more to Cam Newton this week. Over the last six weeks quarterbacks have averaged an astonishing 28 fantasy points per game against this team.
Winston will have a healthy Vincent Jackson back to go along with Mike Evans in the middle of a really nice sophomore season. He also has Austin Seferian-Jenkins back, and although he was pretty quiet this week (three catches for 31 yards), that’s another weapon added. The Bucs like to limit Winston’s pass attempts if they get a lead and that's definitely the one concern here - we saw that come into play with Brian Hoyer against the Saints a few weeks ago. Even with this concern his floor is very high. If Drew Brees can keep the Saints offense scoring as well, the sky is the limit for Winston.
Deeper League QB Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 14
Brian Hoyer (HOU) vs Patriots
OWNED IN: 22% of Fleaflicker Leagues
Hoyer has now had at least 14 fantasy points in eight of ten games this season. The two that he didn’t he missed at least 15 snaps due to being benched and due to an injury. In his most recent game he had 293 passing yards and three touchdowns against a so-so Bills defense. He now gets a similarly average defense in the Patriots.
As far as QBs owned in under 25% of leagues, this late in the season it doesn’t get much better than Hoyer. He has an elite weapon in DeAndre Hopkins with nice secondary options in Cecil Shorts and Nate Washington. Those players have allowed him to put up decent points week after week. The Patriots have played some decent defense lately, holding QBs to 12 or fewer points in the last three weeks. Hopkins likely will not be stopped. I’m confident that Hoyer can do better.
