Week 13 Tight End (TE) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
Stud TE Tyler Eifert is not expected to play this week so a lot of people are out there looking for replacements. One that I really like is Vance McDonald of the 49ers. He seems to have nice chemistry with Blaine Gabbert. He has 10 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns over the last two weeks. It’s a small sample size, but I’m willing to take my chances.
I’m also buying into the mini resurgence we have seen from Julius Thomas. He’s seen 18 targets the past two weeks as it seems Blake Bortles and Thomas are getting on the same page. Allen Hurns being out only helps Thomas’ prospects this week. The Titans give up the 7th most points to tight ends. I have Thomas pegged for about 10 targets and that should lead to a very productive day.
Scott Chandler will be filling in for Gronk. He certainly has a chance for a touchdown in this offense but otherwise I’m not too enthused. The Eagles are a really bad matchup for tight ends. Even dating back to the start of last year they’ve given up just three touchdowns to tight ends.
It’s been a characteristic of Chip Kelly’s defense in the NFL. A lot of people are excited just because there aren’t many option for Brady to throw too. I’ll stay away this week.
