ANALYSIS: The Giants lost stud RB Saquon Barkley just two games into the season, and their move was getting into the free-agent market to sign Devonta Freeman. That was expected, as was his usage and RB1 role while his health stayed up. As Brakley, Freeman went down injured in Week 7 facing the Eagles and missed this Monday's game against Tampa. The main beneficiary: Wayne Gallman.
Gallman was New York's RB2 until the arrival of Freeman, and after it too as the latter took on RB1 duties. There is a chance when Freeman comes back Gallman will once more be relegated down a spot in the depth chart. But the truth is that in the last two games, in which he's played the no. 1 role, he's looked pretty nice on the field.
In Week 7 Gallman put up his best game of the season with a 16.4 PPR-point performance to the tune of 54 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 15 opportunities/touches. That served him to finish as an RB1 that week, and he finished in the RB2 realm this past weekend after putting up 13.2 PPR points against the Bucs (44 rushing yards on 12 carries with a TD, and 18 receiving yards in just one reception).
While Gallman's will depend on how Freeman comes back, and the role New York hands him, Gallman is more than a fine addition for needy GMs in deeper leagues to play at the FLEX spot. His floor will crumble if Freeman gets the RB1 designation, but as long as Gallman has it he should be a weekly 10-to-15 PPR-point scorer with upside for more.
