BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 4% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Walker Kessler had a disappointing freshman year for the North Carolina Tar Heels, but the choice to transfer to Auburn served him greatly; and he finished his only season as a Tiger with 11.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 4.6 blocks in 25.6 minutes per game while also shooting 60.8% from the field and 20% from three-point range. The 7'1, 245-lb. behemoth was a first-round pick by the Memphis Grizzlies, and ended up traded to the Utah Jazz, a team fresh off of a roster fire sale that included the shipment of Rudy Gobert to Minnesota.
Between the Jazz front court of Jarred Vanderbilt, Kelly Olynyk, and Lauri Markkanen, there really isn't a true center in the bunch; and while it was presumed that three-year Utah resident Udoka Azubuike would begin the year as the go-to guy at the position, his presence has been almost non-existent through the first few weeks of the campaign. Kessler, however, has made his presence known when given the opportunity, and it looks to be leading to increased action. In 15.0 minutes, he has produced 5.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game; and while he has yet to take a three-pointer, he is shooting an astute 67.3% from the field. Azubuike still ranks first on the Jazz in block percentage and rebounding percentage in a smaller sample size, but his lesser versatility has meant way more playing time for Walker Kessler. Finding success in a role that could easily expand soon, look to him as a potential addition in deeper formats.
