Recently, fantasy baseball owners lost players like Jason Kipnis and Joe Panik to the DL. That usually means that we need to hit the waiver wire, and find a viable replacement who will continue to produce. Have no fears, I'm here to help.
Over the course of the season I’ll be giving you two players at second base and shortstop per week who I think can help your team. These players are usually widely available in any format, and should turn nice profits in the weeks to come.
As always, feel free to reach out to me directly @Roto_Dubs with any questions about the middle infield or fantasy baseball in general.

Second Base (2B) Waiver Wire Pickups
Jace Peterson (2B / 3B, ATL) - Owned in 30.9% of Fleaflicker leagues
With Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe now wearing blue and orange, Jace Peterson should continue to be a mainstay in the Braves’ lineup. While his season slash line of .252/.326/.358 is nothing to be excited about, he has really turned it up of late, hitting .385 with six runs scored, seven RBI, and two jacks in his last seven games. He’s going to be atop the Braves lineup regularly, so he’ll most certainly continue to have fantasy value while he’s hot.

Marcus Semien (2B / 3B / SS, OAK) - Owned in 33.5% of Fleaflicker leagues
Much like Peterson, Semien has picked things up of late despite a lackluster overall season slash line. In his last seven games, Semien has hit at a .333 clip while knocking in six runs and adding in two homers. Semien is eligible at multiple positions, which gives him more value than most infielders you’ll probably find on the waiver wire at this point in the season. He’s usually hitting at the bottom of the lineup, so his counting stats won’t be terrific, but he’s definitely useful as a middle infield option or an injury fill-in.

Shortstop (SS) Waiver Wire Pickups
Asdrubal Cabrera (2B / SS, TB) - Owned in 14.2% of Fleaflicker leagues
Cabrera has been hugely disappointing for the Rays up to this point, but he’s been a different hitter since coming off the disabled list on July 27th. Since his return, he’s hit a staggering .500 with 11 runs scored and six RBI. He's even chipped in two long balls. Cabrera is a former All-Star, and as long as he’s showing signs of life, he’s going to have fantasy value. I don’t expect him to maintain the current hot streak, but he could end up a .270 hitter at the end of the season as long as he continues to look better at the plate.
Baller Move: Add in points leagues with 10+ teams/add in roto leagues with 10+ teams
Didi Gregorius (2B / SS, NYY) - Owned in 9.4% of Fleaflicker leagues
Sweet sassy molassey, Didi Gregorius might be fantasy-relevant. The Yankees have been on fire recently, and Gregorius has played a large role in that hot streak. Over his last 15 games, he’s hit .366 with eight runs scored and a whopping 12 RBIs, raising his batting average to .256 on the season. I don’t expect him to continue to provide value in anything else but average, but if you’re desperate he could be a nice fill-in in any format.
