Vaughn Grissom is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 7 (2024). Target Vaughn Grissom as a top shortstop and second base free-agent add for fantasy baseball.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 30% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Vaughn Grissom was selected in the 11th round of the 2019 draft by the Atlanta Braves, and after hitting .288 in Rookie ball, he hit no less than .311 at any stop in the minors after that. In 2022 he slashed .291/.353/.440 with five home runs, five stolen bases, a .345 wOBA, and 121 wRC+ over 156 plate appearances with the Braves. In his age-22 season in 2023, Grissom saw 80 plate appearances at the big league level and again held his own in his limited action, posting a .280 batting average and an 81.3% Contact%.
But with Dansby Swanson in 2022 and 2023 All-Star Orlando Arcia blocking him at short (plus his sub-par defense) and Ozzie Albies blocking him at second base, he nearly became an outfielder for the Braves in order to get his bat in the lineup. Instead, he was traded to the Red Sox in the offseason to become their everyday second baseman. A hamstring injury during spring training, however, delayed his Red Sox debut. The 23-year-old is expected to make his season debut this Friday against the Twins.
Vaughn Grissom should officially join the Red Sox starting tonight.
He started slow on his rehab assignment, but quickly found his rhythm at the plate.
Over 9 games (36 AB), he slashed .333/.444/.400/.844 with 2 doubles. Good for a 134 wRC+.pic.twitter.com/lxRlc5LPkI

The right-handed hitter hit .333 during his nine-game rehab assignment, including a pair of doubles and two stolen bases. Grissom hits both righties and lefties well, and he's expected to get regular at-bats for the BoSox. With his solid power/speed profile, a 15/15 season from him can be reasonably expected despite missing the first month of games. What's even more appealing is that he is only eligible at SS on Yahoo at the moment, but should gain 2B eligibility in short order, which will provide managers even more flexibility in how he's deployed.
