ANALYSIS: Tyus Jones decided to re-ink his deal with the Grizzlies last offseason when he could have tested the FA waters and moved elsewhere while knowing about the presence of a certain Ja Morant in Memphis. Can't blame him, though, considering he fits like a glove into the Grizz PG2 role and he seems pleased with building a career out of it.
Jones has started some games here and there this season because Morant is not injury-prone but misses games often throughout the year. Most recently, in a back-to-back facing Utah and San Antonio on Sunday and Monday, Tyus started and played 34 and 35 minutes, respectively, putting up monster numbers.
In those two games, Jones put up 21-2-6-4 and 24-3-6-3 stat lines while also scoring two 3-point shots each time and turning the ball over just three total times between the two games. A sight to behold, folks.
Even when coming off the pine, Jones has averaged staggering numbers on a per-minute basis compared to the league average (0.90 FP/min). Jones has scored at least 0.96 FP/min in all games from Dec. 31 through Jan. 14 and other than in his last one on Saturday, he's reached at least 1.13 FP/min in all other seven games played in that span.
In January alone, Jones is averaging nearly 32 FPPG to the tune of 15+ PPG, 5+ APG, 2+ RPG, and 2+ SPG. The shooting has been scorching hot of late on top of everything, too, with Jones hitting the nylon on 48% of the attempts he's launched from the floor while connecting at least twice from beyond the arc in each and all of his last eight games getting back to Dec. 31.
