Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Tyler Wells Reportedly Pitching Out Of The Bullpen
Right-hander Tyler Wells will reportedly be pitching out of the bullpen per a tweet from MLB.com’s Jake Rill on Tuesday afternoon. Rill tweeted the following:
Wells made 21 appearances (20 starts) for Baltimore this season, pitching to a 3.80 ERA and a 5.15 FIP in 113.2 innings of work. He added 111 strikeouts while surrendering 33 walks and 25 home runs in the process. The 28-year-old surrendered 10 hits, 11 earned runs, nine walks, and four home runs in a nine-inning stretch spanning three starts in the second half of July before being optioned to the minors.
Per Rill’s tweet, he’s now working in a relief capacity with Baltimore’s Triple-A affiliate. It’ll certainly be worth following to see if Wells can reestablish himself as part of the Baltimore bullpen at the Major League level.
Even if he did, it seems unlikely that he’d be immediately thrust into high-leverage situations. Of course, that’s all entirely speculative, but it’s difficult for relievers who don’t receive regular hold or save opportunities – depending on which scoring format you use or prefer – to maintain consistent fantasy value. For now, unless you’ve got NA spots available in your league, it might be time to look elsewhere for stash candidates for the final weeks of the fantasy season.
