BALLER MOVE: Draft Target Late Rounds in 14+ Team Leagues
ANALYSIS: As you probably know if you listen to our RotoBaller Fantasy Sports Radio show (every wednesday night at 9:30 ET), I am not a big fan of overpaying for pitchers and catchers. Part of it stems from the fact that neither position can be relied upon as an everyday player; albeit for different reasons, it diminishes the overall fantasy baseball value of those positions versus the juicier ones like outfield and corner infield.
Stubborn people like me need some sleeper targets later in mixed league drafts, or even 2 catcher formats like the NFBC, and players like Tyler Flowers and Mike Zunino provide that kind of draft protection and offensive upside potential.
Entering his age 29 season, the now full time veteran is coming off a career year where he smashed 15 bombs and 50 RBI in only 407 at bats. He even chipped in and carried his own weight with a .241 batting average. These days that is superb out of the catcher position, especially in deeper leagues or AL Only formats.
Don't go too crazy overdrafting the fluke home run hitting catcher from the Sox early, but if you bypassed all of the legit studs and lost out on the mid round fodder, then feel comfortable snagging Flowers and sticking him into your pot (fantasy lineup) for the 2015 campaign. Believe us, you can do way worse (think Rene Rivera).
