BALLER MOVE: Bench In Single-TE Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: TE2
ANALYSIS: New York Jets tight end Tyler Conklin continues to generate some low-end fantasy buzz after a solid 2023 season.
The 29-year-old has been a top-18 tight end in PPR leagues for each of the last three seasons. Last year, he tied a career-high in receptions (61) and set a new career-high in yards (621). However, he was held without a touchdown catch for the first time since 2019.
What's intriguing is that Conklin put up these numbers while catching passes from players like Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian, and Tim Boyle. In 2024, he'll get a major quarterback upgrade with Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) returning to the field.

Some of Conklin's underlying metrics suggest he could perform even better with solid quarterback play, including his 93.8 percent true catch rate (sixth among tight ends in 2023) and his 220 unrealized air yards (12th).
However, Week 1 isn't the week to go all-in on Conklin. He's facing a very strong 49ers defense that allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points and the second-fewest touchdowns to tight ends in 2023. Between his matchup and some historically rare depth at tight end, Conklin falls outside the top 16 at his position this week.
Conklin is a worthwhile option in leagues where you have to start two tight ends. However, if you only need one player at the position, you can likely find more reliable production and higher upside elsewhere.
