BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 7% of leagues
ANALYSIS: It isn't lost on me that Tyler Beede just gave up seven ER in a startling 2.1 IP against the Cincinnati Reds in GABP (though the Giants would go on to win 12-11), and this may cause you to raise your eyebrows at this recommendation. However, the former Vanderbilt star still deserves love from those in need of upcoming quality starts, especially if you're looking to roll the dice with a high-strikeout payoff. Though he has stumbled in his first few MLB appearances, he has been tearing it up this season for Triple-A Sacramento to the tune of a 1.99 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a dominant 13.5 K/9.
Though he tends to walk more batters when he is seeking strikeouts (4.0 BB/9 at Triple-A this year), he rarely struggles with home runs as evidenced by his 0.4 HR/9 for Sacramento this season and 0.7 HR/9 figure for his minor league career. A 2019 major league debut in hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park is not an easy situation, and Beede was still packing heat in his arsenal, tossing his fastballs at 95.9 MPH. With Derek Holland out with a bone bruise in his finger with an uncertain timetable for return, the Giants will be looking to Beede for the immediate future to fill out the rotation. Maybe wait out his next projected start in Colorado, but the San Francisco rookie has durability and high strikeout upside to offer.
