ANALYSIS: The New York Jets backfield has been in a constant state of flux this year, as a season-ending injury to Breece Hall and the acquisition of James Robinson from Jacksonville have forced movement on the depth chart.
The hits just kept on coming in New York's Week 12 win over the Chicago Bears. Starting RB Michael Carter went down with an ankle injury, while the aforementioned Robinson was a healthy scratch.
Carter's early exit forced Jets backs Zonovan Knight and Ty Johnson into significant workloads. The rookie Knight led the way with 14 carries and three targets, while Johnson handled five carries and a pair of targets.
Both backs played well against a soft Bears defense in relief of Carter. Johnson made the most of his smaller role, housing a 32-yard TD run and producing 78 total yards.
With Carter and Robinson looking doubtful for a Week 13 date with the Minnesota Vikings, the workload in Gang Green's backfield will likely remain in the hands of the duo of Knight and Johnson. If Week 12 is any indicator, Johnson will be utilized as the passing-down back and mixed in as a change-of-pace option. This role makes him a viable fantasy pick-up in deeper leagues.
