Week 16 Streamers - Under 50% Owned
Jon Gray, COL - 43% owned
Probable opponents: @ ARI, vs. HOU
Warning, break glass in case of emergency. Meaning, only add Gray to your roster if you need strikeouts. The ERA is rough (5.77 ERA). He’s allowed at least five earned runs in two of the past three games and at least three earned runs in eight of the last nine appearances. However, on the bright side, he delivers the punch outs. Gray has gathered at least seven strikeouts in four consecutive starts and at least five whiffs in 11 of the last 12 appearances. Arizona is currently sixth in baseball with 862 strikeouts this season.
Anibal Sanchez, ATL - 43% owned
Probable opponents: @ WSH, @ MIA
What a turnaround of a season it’s been for Sanchez in 2018. He went from a 6.41 ERA in 105.1 innings in Detroit last year to a 2.72 ERA in 59.2 innings in Atlanta this season. He’s even allowed only one earned run in back-to-back appearances. Sanchez will see the Nats after the All-Star break. He’s faced Washington for a total of 10 innings this year: 0 ER, 7 K. Then, the Marlins are on the docket. Miami is 26th in team wOBA (.306) against righties, 26th in runs scored (364 runs in 95 games), and 10th in team strikeouts (825) this season.
Kyle Gibson, MIN - 36% owned
Probable opponents: @ KC, @ TOR
After back-to-back nine-strikeout performances, it seems as though Gibson is on the right track. He’s allowed three earned runs, or less, in nine of the last 10 starts and has struck out at least five batters in four of hisTwo last five appearances. Kansas City could be his first start after the All-Star break. The Royals are 29th in team wOBA (.292) against right-handed pitchers and 30th in runs scored (325 runs in 92 games) this season. Gibson has the potential to be on the road twice in Week 16. He’s 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 57 innings away from Target Field this year.
Under 25% Owned
Joe Musgrove, PIT - 21% owned
Probable opponents: @ CLE, vs. NYM
The toughest part about suggesting pitchers in the “Under 25 percent owned” department is that most of them have on more outing (Saturday or Sunday) before the All-Star break and this article is posted prior to those appearances. So, my apologies if something changes for Week 16. Musgrove has struck out at least five batters in seven of his eight starts in 2018. In his last outing, he struck out a season-high nine batters. Unfortunately, he’ll have the tough task of facing the Indians after the All-Star break. On the bright side, he’ll also likely see the Mets in Week 16. The NL’s New York team is 22nd in team wOBA (.313) against right-handed pitchers and 27th in runs scored (351 runs in 91 games) this season.
Brent Suter, MIL - 19% owned
Probable opponents: vs. WSH, @ SF
Suter returns from the DL to pitch on Saturday (the day this article is posted). So, his news could change if an injury occurs. However, assuming things go well, he’ll be lined up to start a couple games in Week 16, after the All-Star break. Suter has struck out at least five batters in three straight starts. On the down side, he’s allowed at least four earned runs in back-to-back games. Prior to those two bad performances, he allowed three earned runs, or less, in seven consecutive outings. Let’s hope those two poor performances were caused by the forearm injury that placed Suter on the 10-day disabled list. He could face the Giants in Week 16, who are 23rd in team wOBA (.302) against left-handed pitchers, 22nd in runs scored (387 runs in 95 games), and eighth in team strikeouts (835) this season.
Andrew Suarez, SF - 16% owned
Probable opponents: @ OAK, vs. OAK (?)
Suarez is in a similar situation to Suter, whereas he pitches one more time before the All-Star break. So, if something happens during that outing, please disregard this section. However, if things go well, Suarez should be on your radar for Week 16. He’s struck out at least five batters in four of his past five appearances and allowed only one earned run in each of his past four starts. The toughest part about his schedule will be the fact that he faces a DH in back-to-back starts. He’ll also face the Athletics in back-to-back outings (one prior to the All-Star break). Oakland is 18th in team wOBA (.313) against left-handed pitchers and currently 12th in team strikeouts (811) this season.
